5-day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional: Why Not, God?

This is based on the message Ken Wootton shared on 23/02/2025.

Day 1: Embracing God’s Call

Reading: Isaiah 6:1-8

Devotional: God’s call often comes unexpectedly, challenging us to step out of our comfort zones. Isaiah’s response, “Here I am! Send me,” exemplifies the courage and willingness we’re called to embody. Today, reflect on areas in your life where God might be calling you to serve or step out in faith. Are you responding with “Why God?” or “Why not God?” Consider how shifting your perspective from hesitation to openness might change your response to God’s call. Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. Pray for the courage to say “Yes” to God’s invitations in your life.

Day 2: Overcoming Fear with Faith

Reading: Deuteronomy 1:19-33

Devotional: Fear can paralyse us, preventing us from entering the “Promised Land” God has for us. The Israelites’ response to the challenges ahead reflects our own tendencies to focus on obstacles rather than opportunities. Today, identify a fear or challenge in your life that’s holding you back. How might God be inviting you to trust Him in this situation? Remember, “The Lord your God goes before you.” Pray for the strength to move forward in faith, seeing your circumstances through God’s eyes rather than your own limitations.

Day 3: Freedom in Christ

Reading: John 8:31-36

Devotional: True freedom comes not from the absence of constraints but from being bound to Christ. Jesus promises that when He sets us free, we are “free indeed.” This freedom isn’t a license to sin but an empowerment to live fully as God intended. Reflect on areas in your life where you feel bound by sin, fear, or societal expectations. How can embracing your identity in Christ liberate you to live more authentically and courageously? Pray for a deeper understanding of your freedom in Christ and the courage to live it out daily.

Day 4: Strength in the Holy Spirit

Reading: Acts 1:1-8

Devotional: The promise of the Holy Spirit is not just for a select few but for all believers. This “power” (dunamis in Greek) is the same power that raised Christ from the dead. It’s available to us for witnessing, serving, and living out our faith boldly. Consider a situation where you feel inadequate or powerless. How might relying on the Holy Spirit’s power change your approach? Pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, asking for courage, wisdom, and strength to face your challenges and fulfill your calling.

Day 5: Grasping God’s Immeasurable Love

Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21

Devotional: Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians reveals the vast dimensions of God’s love – a love that surpasses knowledge and fills us with God’s fullness. This love is not just a concept to understand but a reality to experience. Today, meditate on the breadth, length, height, and depth of God’s love for you personally. How does grasping this love empower you to live more boldly and love more freely? Pray that you might be “rooted and established in love,” allowing this profound truth to transform your relationships, decisions, and view of yourself. Remember, God is able to do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” through His power at work within us.
